the bad and the good news.
hello every one. it has been a very long week and i thought you might want to know what is going on. mrsh. has been sick all week and tuesday she finally got out of the house for a while and we went shopping. she started feeling real bad and she asked me to take her to the doctors which was real close to us. well when we got there i was trying to figure out if they would see her with out an appointment. they never like walkins. well when we got there the office was closed for the afternoon. so i told her i was going to take her to the hospital. she of course wanted to go home and stated that it was going to cost way to much but i kept heading for the hospital. well we got there at 3 p.m. and after getting a blood test , xrays, e.k.g,m.r.i, and a cat scan the doctor informed us that she had had a stroke about 2 or 3 days ago. he said he did not understand though why she was not slurring her speech and she was not paralyzed any where. he said we need to keep her overnight and test her some more in the morning. when he told us that it was 8 p.m. he said he would get her a room and they would come get her. well 2 hours later they arrived to take her to her room. at about 1 a.m i left to go home and told her i would be back in the morning. when i returned she said they had taken her for 2 other test and they were waiting for the results. well the results never came that day but there were a constant stream of people from the hospital checking on her and doing various checks on her heart rate and blood pressure and who knows what all. it seems they were in and out every 15 minutes. so thursday night i left the hospital at about 12 midnight to come home alone again and try to get some sleep . well in the morning a nurse from the hospital called and said mrsh. was being released. when i got to the hospital and went to her room she was standing in the doorway . she did not look happy. she said the doctor had come in and he said he was going to have her take a test and she said i already had that test and he said, oh. i did not see it on the computer. he said we will need the results from the test before i can release you because if it is not good then we may have to perform surgery. then he walks off and after a while my wife asked the nurse where he was and she said he left. then she asked the nurse did the test come back that the doctor was suppose to look at and the nurse looked at the computer and said i don't see it here . then she noticed that the doctor had released my wife. now if this important test was suppose to be looked at than why did the doctor leave? if he looked at any results to the test then why did he not return and tell my wife they were good and he was going to release her or at least tell her nurse to tell her. the nurse said the doctor wrote prescriptions for her and she gave that to us and said you can go when you get ready, huh. what kind of mickey mouse place is this. my wife and i happen to be on an hmo plan with blue cross and blue shield. with an hmo plan you have what they call a primary physician and when you get sick you have to go see him. if it is some thing he can not handle he will refer you to another doctor that takes care of people on hmo plans. now if you get really sick and your primary doctor is not in and it is at night or on the weekends and you can't wait you go to an emergency room but as soon as you are released you are suppose to notify your primary doctor to let her or him know what's going on. well after the treatment we got from the doctor at the hospital my wife did not want to see him again no matter what. so when we left the hospital we went to her primary doctor and explained to the woman that takes appointments what had happened and she said well you need to go back to the same doctor at the hospital for your follow up treatments. i said my wife does not like or trust that doctor and she will not be going back. she said, then what do you want us to do. i said call the hospital and have them send my wifes records to you and then call us and we will come in and her doctor can refer us to some doctor he knows and trust. the woman says in this bewildered tone, oh-o.k. what is the story here. i am thinking. are we dealing with a bunch of idiots here. also after taking mrsh. home i went to get her prescriptions filled. on of the ones being filled was one she had taken before by her primary physician and she always would get 10 mg pills. well the doctor at the hospital had asked for 5 mg. the druggist said we only have 10 mg pills. they said they would cut 3 pills in half and give them to us and order the 5 mg because thats what the doctor had ordered. i said fine. all the time though i am saying to myself, if a doctor orders a 30 day supply of 5 mg pills for a patints and not 10 mg. what stops the patients from going home and take 2 -5mg pills instead of one. maybe they go home and take the whole bottle. is the doctor there to stop them, no. talk about stupid. it reminds me of when a person is being harassed and you go to court and they tell the guy that is harassing you that he is being ordered by the court not to come with in 200 yards of you and hand he a piece of paper. oh wow, that's going to stop a crazy person from bothering you. that piece of paper and two attack dogs that the person who is being harassed owns. these people are living in another world. well right now mrsh. is home with me and she has her medicine and we are not going back to the doctor in the hospital for sure and i am going to try and change our primary doctor because my wife does not like him any way. when you get a doctor especially one in a hospital and you end up feeling like he does not know much and you know he treats you bad and does not inform you what is going on ,then why would you let him refer you to some other doctor to perform surgery on you. forget about it. i told my wife if she gets sick we will go to another hospital and maybe we will get some one that at least sounds like he knows his job and it wouldn't hurt if he had a good bedside manner also. well wish us luck and i will keep you informed.
